The Directors and members of the MMCC were very saddened to receive news of
the recent death of Alan Holmes, shortly after his 91st birthday.
Born in Casletown, Alan became the first Manxman to win both the Junior and
Senior MGP races in the same year, 1957, a record that was not to be
repeated for a further 37 years.
In 1953 Alan made his debut on the Mountain Course when he finished 3rd in
the Clubman's Senior TT. Moving to the MGP that year seen Alan finish 7th in
the Senior on Reg Dearden's machine. Returning to the Manx in 1955 there was
a 2nd in the Junior Race and the following year 3rd in the Senior before the
double in 1957.
Alan returned to the Mountain Course for the 1958 TT, but serious injuries
from an accident later in the season at Oulton Park meant an early
retirement from the sport he loved so much.
Deepest sympathy is extended to his son David and family.
Alan’s last trip of the Mountain Course will take place on Wednesday 6 January 2021, leaving the Grandstand at 12.15pm arriving for a service at the Crematorium at 2pm.
