Michael Evans from the Isle of Man was out in front with a stunning lap in this evening’s qualifying session for the IMGold Manx Grand Prix.  The newcomer posted the fastest time of the meeting so far with a lap of 119.759 (18:54.192) to top the leaderboard for the Newcomer A class and also the leaderboard for Friday’s Senior Race.

Evans’s closest rival in Monday’s IMGold Newcomer A Race looks to be fellow Manx rider Brendan Fargher who was timed at 115.071 / 19:40.386 while Wayne Humble (114.550, Spain’s Raul Torras Martinez (114.241) and Jamie Williams (113.344) also went under 20 minutes for a lap for the first time.  The top twenty Newcomers in the session all posted their fastest laps to set up Monday’s first Manx Grand Prix Race.

The Newcomers B, headed by Jonathan Perry (110.516) and Marc Ironside (110.076) who both posted their first 110mph laps, also got in on the act. Australian Paul Van der Heiden finished third fastest with a lap of 109.926 but the session was notable as every one of the 13 competitors posted their best time of the week.

It was the same story in the Junior session earlier in the day with most of the field clocking their fastest laps to date with notable laps from Richard Charlton (118.774), Joe Akroyd (118.673), Davey Lambert (118.390) and Michael Moulai (118.272) who all posted their fastest of the week. However Andrew Dudgeon is still the man to beat and although his fastest time of the night (118.996) was outside his best time set the previous evening, he was still fastest in the session.

In the Lightweight MGP class Rikki McGovern’s 106.337 edged him closer to Dan Sayle’s fastest time in the class set in Friday’s session while in the SuperTwin session Andrew Dudgeon continued his good form to top the board with 112.856.  Victor Lopez Santon (111.684) and Andrew Farrell (111.245) also clocked their fastest laps of the week in the class to set themselves up for next Wednesday’s Manx Grand Prix Supporters Club Race.

Roger Wibberley came off at Greeba Castle in the afternoon’s Junior practice and was taken by airmed to Nobles Hospital with a wrist injury while Dan Beighton had an accident at the 27th in the Newcomers A session in the evening and was taken to Nobles with suspected back and leg injuries.
