- Newcomers take final opportunity for Mountain Course debut
Manx Grand Prix Newcomers prepared for their TT Mountain Course debuts tomorrow with a final qualifying session on the Isle of Man this evening.
The Isle of Man’s Peter Wilkinson on his Rusty Rack Racing Yamaha was the quickest on the night with a time of 111.371, his fastest of the week with Barry Lee Evans (111.231) and Logan Racing Neil Kernohan (110.436) also posting 110+mph laps to set up tomorrow’s race.
Ryan Maher (One Fifteen Motorcycles/Smiths catering) with 104.954 and Robert Smith (Team Oscar Racing) with his first 100mph lap (100.002) topped the Newcomers B and Newcomers C qualifying session respectively.
In the Junior Classs Malachi Mitchell-Thomas posted the fastest Junior time of the evening, as he had done in Saturday’s session, with 118.321 but his closest rival for Wednesday’s Junior Race, Billy Redmayne was reported as off at Sarah’s Cottage and although he was assessed not to have serious injuries, was nevertheless taken by airmed to Nobles Hospital and must be a serious doubt for Wednesday’s Junior Manx Grand Prix Race. Experienced campaigner Michael Moulai was second fastest on the night with 117.889 and will undoubtedly challenge Mitchell-Thomas for the Junior Race win.
Karl Foster also had an accident in the same qualifying session, at the Creg Ny Baa but was seen by a Travelling Marshal and did not sustain any injuries.
The Junior MGP, Senior MGP SuperTwin and Lightweight competitors will get an additional opportunity to practice ahead of tomorrow’s Newcomers Race with a Senior practice also scheduled for Wednesday after the Junior race.
