The Isle of Man’s Billy Redmayne and Malachi Mitchell-Thomas look set to continue their head to head that began last year in the Manx Grand Prix Newcomers Race. The pair both posted fast times in this evening’s IMGold Manx Grand Prix
Horwich based Mitchell Thomas followed Redmayne’s second lap of 119.807 in the Junior session with a rare MGP 120mph lap and the pair will both be looking to join the exclusive ‘Tommy Club’ in honour of Tommy Clucas, who was the first rider to complete a 120mph lap, which he achieved on a 600cc machine in 2004.
In the Lightweight class, Rob Hodson established himself as the clear favourite with a lap of 112.513 although David Bell (111.999) and Andrew Dudgeon (110.524) will challenge the Wigan based rider.
The newcomers got some much needed track time after the weather problems earlier in the week and with Clerk of the Course Phil Taubman postponing their race from Monday to Tuesday, they will get additional practice on Monday to prepare for their race.
The Isle of Man’s Peter Wilkinson topped the Newcomers A board with the quickest class time of the week (110.724) and the majority of the newcomers posted their fastest times to date with the top 23 in the 600 class having now recorded 100mph laps.
Newcomer C Mark Purslow continued to impress in the Lightweight class, topping the overall board with a lap of 102.250 from experienced campaigner Dave Taylor (101.861) and Radley Hughes (101.310). In the Newcomers B class, James Chawke posted 99.618mph on his second lap of the session.
