Cronk ny Mona to Finish

As you come round the last of the bends that comprise Cronk-ny-Mona, you’ll see the 30mph signs that signal the entry to Signpost Corner. As soon as you see the 30mph signs, you need to get on the brakes and start downshifting. It’s really easy to get sucked into Signpost too hot but at least there’s the road down to Onchan you can use as a run-off if you can’t slow down enough to make the turn! You need to aim for the apex point on the right hand kerb as you get off the brakes and start your turn in. Bob Heath, the Classic Manx rider was exceptionally smooth and quick through this corner!

Drive hard out of Signpost and get over to the right hand side of the road for the entry to Bedstead Corner. Aim to apex the corner just where the chevroned kerbing starts under the grass banking on the left hand side and run out all the way to the shallow kerb on the right for the drop down to The Nook.

The whole road was re-engineered at The Nook over the winter of 2007/8 and road traffic no longer uses the narrow section down to Governor's. This makes spotting the brake markers and turn-in points a lot harder than it used to be, even though there is a barrier with chevrons put up for practice and race days. If you look carefully at the left hand side of the road, you can see a number of drains by the left hand kerb just before the entrance to the old road. The second one of these drains is the turn-in point for The Nook but it's difficult to spot and requires concentration.

Nobody really knows what the surface is going to be like through The Nook once it's been stood for a winter or two without road traffic clearing the moss and debris from the surface. It's more than likely it will 'green up' and become more slippery but we'll have to wait and see. What will remain the same is the fact that you're unlikely to win races by rushing through this section.

The entry into Governor's Dip is a hard stop and a sharp 1st gear right turn. If you use the wall as your reference point be aware that there is a pavement and kerbing which sticks out a long way into the corner and you'll end up scraping the belly pan or clattering your knee on it. There are frequently 'lack of adhesion' flags displayed in this section as the road is completely overshadowed by trees and, as with The Nook, it is no longer used by normal road traffic. It only exists for purely historical reasons.

Gently enter the left hander at the bottom of the Dip before feeding the power on carefully for the right hand exit back onto Glencrutchery Road. The exit is adverse camber and often punishes over-enthusiastic riders by dumping them as the back end lets go under power. Take care! As soon as you're away from the adverse camber, you can get the power on hard. If it's a  flying lap, you're accelerating hard all the way past the Grandstand and on towards Bray Hill again.
